Tip-top Tulip Festival at Araluen
By Ella Peeters
We are now well into the season of spring in Australia, bringing on the bloom of flowers. A local festival, famous for its spring blooms, is the Araluen Tulip Festival, situated in the peace and tranquillity of Perth’s hills. On September 21st, my Dad and I visited Araluen, at the end of the festival, and were delighted to see park still ablaze with colour.
I chatted with Admin and Parks assistant Jane Minson about the festival and how the ground staff were kept busy ensuring the tulips were in tip-top condition throughout the season. She was proud to tell us that more than 50,000 people attended the festival, which was an extremely good turnout.
During August and September, Araluen is in prime time, buzzing with a variety of entertainment for all. Their famous train travels throughout the park, hosting many families keen to catch the sights. Famous Western Australian singer Jay Weston performed at the park, captivating the audience with covers of romantic singers like Michael Bublé.
With more than 70 different varieties of tulip, the park boasts an amazing selection of remarkably different flowers: from the way they sprout to their unique colouring, they are a sight not to be missed.
