Paralympics triathlete proves the doubters wrong
I was recently lucky enough to attend an Australian Institute of Management (AIM) WA Professional Development Sundowner where elite triathlete, HBF ambassador and Paralympian Brant Garvey gave an inspirational and moving speech.
A congenital above-knee amputee, Brant’s motto ‘No Excuses’ reflects his never-say-die attitude – and has allowed him to rise to the top of his sport and gain qualification for this year’s Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Brant is now ranked fifth in the world for the Paratriathlon PT2 class and has many first-place finishes at Paratriathlon world championships around the world – including London, Canada, the US and Japan.
Since becoming a paratriathlete, Brant has proved all his doubters wrong and when he first started running he thought he would never make it past the 100-metre mark, let alone a full triathlon.
He said his first attempts at running were a disaster but he persisted – pushing himself through the pain barrier until he succeeded.
