Maylands Street Festival is a great success

Large crowds descended on the centre of Maylands last weekend as the 2016 Maylands Street Festival got underway.
There were food trucks, artisan and craft stalls (including jewellery), clothes stalls, mini markets, street performers, kids skate park displays and two pop up bars to entertain and engage the visitors.
Food ranged from curries to kebabs, Mexican, Thai, German bratwurst sausage and even Brazilian food. A European-style ‘Oompah’ band kept the crowd entertained throughout the afternoon from a small stage at the end of Eighth Avenue, and stalls stretched from Eighth Avenue through to Whatley Crescent.
A highlight of the day was the dunking machine organised by NTY Property Group in Eighth Avenue, which attracted huge crowds ready to pay a small fee to activate the chair and send real estate licensee Brock Robertson and his colleague Steve Lorimar into the water.
Mr Robertson said the dunking machine charity event raised $369.60 for the Salvation Army, Maylands. “Everyone had a great time and there were lots of kids and adults too getting involved,” he said.
He added the crowd outside the NTY office built up to capacity whenever they had not been dunked for a while. “I guess everyone wanted to see us go in,” he said.
